Police: Missing woman, 61, found inside obscure attic area
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina woman who was reported missing in February was found dead inside her home but authorities have determined no foul play was involved.
Marianne Marsh, 61, was reported missing on Feb. 15 and was last seen on Valentine’s Day, news outlets reported. She was considered endangered because of frigid weather and her need for daily medication.
Horry County police said officers, family members and the community completed multiple searches of Marsh’s home and the surrounding outdoor areas but she wasn’t found.
On Tuesday, police said a family member reported smelling a foul odor inside Marsh’s home.
Officers searched the home again and found Marsh’s remains in a remote and obscure area of the attic.
Police said Marsh was able to “hide” in the space because of her petite frame and knowledge of the home. It’s unclear why Marsh was in that area of the attic.
Police and the county coroner’s office determined no foul play was suspected.
A cause of death is pending an autopsy.
