Barnwell gets back to Lower State title game
BARNWELL 32, TIMBERLAND 6
SAINT STEPHEN — Craig Pender threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns, Dallyon Creech found the end zone three times and Barnwell advanced to the Lower State championship game for the third year in a row with a 32-6 rout of Timberland.
Barnwell will host Carvers Bay, which defeated Bamberg-Ehrhardt in overtime.
“Any time you’re playing at this time of the year it’s great. Our fans will be excited. Our kids will be excited,” Barnwell head coach Dwayne Garrick said.
Brandon Harvey got the scoring started with an 11-yard reception in the first quarter. Dallyon Creech scored the next three touchdowns, including a 12-yard reception just before halftime to put the Warhorses up 26-0.
Pender found Julius Arnold to close out the scoring for Barnwell.
Creech ended the game with 72 total yards. Kaleil Johnson caught three passes for 61 yards to lead all receivers.
“I was proud of our kids for starting fast and showing up and playing in the first half,” Garrick said. “I thought we executed really well.”
Barnwell will be attempting to change its recent luck in the state semifinals. The Warhorses came up short in each of the previous two.
“The teams are all good right now,” Garrick said. “The mind set is to do whatever we can to make it happen. We’ve got to do whatever we’ve got to do to be in the game in the fourth quarter and try to squeeze it out.”
