Watch anti-Trump protesters poke fun at his legal problems

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Chanting “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go,” “black lives matter” and “abolish ICE,” dozens of protesters gathered outside the Columbus Convention Center to demonstrate against President Donald Trump, who headlined an Ohio Republican Party fundraiser Friday evening.

Some demonstrators dressed in orange prison jumpsuits. Signs emphasized the president’s legal troubles.

Earlier this week, one-time Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was convicted on eight charges having to do with banking and tax crimes. Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight other charges, some related to  campaign finance violations. He said he violated the law at Trump’s direction.

Betsy Poling and Marge Redmond, Columbus residents both wearing prison garb, said they were attending in part because they have grandchildren and are concerned about the future.

“We teach them to tell the truth, and there is a lot of lying going on,” Poling said. “And a lot of deceit - our democracy is being destroyed. So we are going to do something about it.”

Protesters also tried to tie Trump’s legal problems to Republicans at the state and local level. They drew attention to the Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow, or ECOT, the controversial online charter school that overcharged the state for educating students it could not prove were participating in their education.

The rally was hosted by several Ohio Indivisible groups and Rise Up Ohio.
