Kaymer opens strongly in Munich
MUNICH (AP) — Former champion Martin Kaymer impressed home fans with a 5-under 67 Thursday that left him one shot behind leader Andrea Pavan in the opening round of the BMW International Open.
Kaymer, the only German to win the tournament after his triumph in 2008, had a bogey-free round to share second place with Oliver Wilson of England.
Pavan had five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 11th in his 6-under 66. The Italian dropped a stroke on No. 9, his last hole.
Defending champion Matt Wallace of England shot a 3-under 69.
Play was suspended due to the threat of lightning before resuming after almost three hours.
