Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for ICE abolishment: ‘I don’t think that agency can be reformed’
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called for the abolishment of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a video posted Monday, adding she doesn’t believe the “agency can be reformed.”
″ ‘Abolish ICE’ is a call to action on several levels. One is the literal interpretation of all abolishing ICE, which I support and I’ve said on multiple occasions I don’t believe that an agency that systematically and repeatedly violates human rights, I don’t think that agency can be reformed,” the New York Democrat said in a video posted by The Hill.
“I think it has to be abolished, and I think we can figure out a new way of doing things, but that new way of doing things is I think what we need to build, and that’s what the call to action is,” she continued.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez has been a vocal opponent to ICE, even telling members of her own party they were “putting themselves on a list” for reelection after they supported a Republican referendum to a gun rights bill that would call ICE if an illegal immigrant tried to purchase a gun.
