Bengals in the NFL: Hill nets season highs in Saints’ win

Throughout the NFL season, we’ll check in with former Idaho State football players currently in the NFL. Here’s an update after the ninth week of the regular season.

Evan Smith (2004-08) and Dirk Koetter (1977, 79-81)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers fell to 0-4 at home this season after a 43-28 loss Thursday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Tampa Bay held two brief leads at 7-0 and 14-13. The Falcons led by as much as 40-14 in the fourth quarter.

Bucs’ quarterback Jameis Winston threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. Former Idaho State lineman Evan Smith played his sixth game of the season.

Tampa Bay and first-year head coach Dirk Koetter (3-5) host the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Josh Hill (2009-12)

New Orleans Saints

Former Idaho State tight end Josh Hill had season highs in receptions (four) and yards (40) Sunday in New Orleans’ 41-23 win at San Francisco.

The Saints piled up 571 yards of offense in the win. Hill has eight catches for 72 yards and one touchdown in five games this season.

New Orleans (4-4) hosts Denver on Sunday.

Marvin Lewis (1978-80)

Cincinnati Bengals

Idaho State alum Marvin Lewis and the Cincinnati Bengals were on a bye this week. Cincinnati (3-4-1) is 1/2 game behind AFC North Division leaders Baltimore and Pittsburgh. The Bengals play Monday at the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
