Gene LeClaire -- Rochester

Gene Lois LeClaire, 91, of Rochester, passed away on Nov. 16, 2017, at Samaritan Bethany.

Gene was born on July 15, 1926, in Red Wing to Arthur and Tevie (Peterson) Carlson. She grew up on the family farm in Welch and graduated from Red Wing High School in 1944.

On Oct. 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Kennard LeClaire. They lived in Rochester, where Gene was employed early on at Mayo Clinic and then became a homemaker and raised two children. In her later years, she was a volunteer for 10 years at the Community Clothesline.

Gene enjoyed traveling with friends and taking many road trips with Kennard in their motor home. She was a longtime member of Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester.

Gene is survived by her daughter, Kathy LeClaire of Rochester; son, Gary LeClaire of Longmont, Colo.; and grandchildren, Cory LeClaire, Christina LeClaire of Blaine, Minn., and Randon LeClaire of Longmont, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kennard; parents; and brothers, Donald Carlson and Wayne Carlson.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Gene’s many caregivers over the last several months, including the medical staffs at Mayo Clinic, River Bend, Rochester East Health Services, Samaritan Bethany and Seasons Hospice. We wish to also express thanks to Pastors Lisa Kipp, Vern Christopherson, Jason Bryan Wegner and Congregational Life Minister Ruth Monson from Zumbro Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Zumbro Lutheran Church. The visitation will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church of Welch.
