Three vehicle accident leaves one dead; multiple injured

HARTINGTON - A three vehicle accident left one dead Tuesday night.

According to the Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda, the sheriff’s office received a report of the accident on Highway 81 at mile marker 208.

A southbound GMC Sonoma driven by 82-year-old Marjorie Novak of Hartington collided head on with a northbound Chevy Equinox driven by a Yankton man.

A northbound Nissan Rogue driven by 52-year-old Brenda Saltzman of Sioux Falls then collided with the rear of the Equinox.

Novak was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Yankton man was transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital by ambulance and then life-flighted to Sanford Sioux Falls for life threatening injuries.

Saltzman and her two passengers were transported to Avera Sacred Heart with non-life threatening injuries.

Novak was the only occupant not wearing a seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Yankton EMS, Crofton EMS, and Crofton Fire assisted at the scene.
