SHABBONA – A local man was killed Tuesday in an incident that appears to be related to a tree falling on top of him, DeKalb County Coroner Dennis Miller said.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sullivan said police responded to a call for help at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“We received a call of an unresponsive man out in a rural area in Shabbona,” Sullivan said. “It appeared that he was out working in the field area clearing some trees, and a tree had fallen on him.”

Miller said the coroner’s office was notified around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

“It was a mishap ...,” Miller said. “He was working along a tree line out on some property, and was found by a co-worker.”

Miller said the death is still under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office, and that an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

The man has not yet been identified to the public, Miller said, but the coroner’s office is working with the family.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sullivan said the coroner’s office is handling the investigation.
