Locals Fall Shy
Lowell Catholic, Ayer Shirley and Groton-Dunstable were all defeated in football action on Friday night.
Lowell Catholic 14
Matignon/St. Joseph Prep (4-2) overcame a 14-6 deficit while rallying past Lowell Catholic (1-5) in a Catholic Central League Small School game.
Declan Donaghey hauled in a 42-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Maston to give the Crusaders a 6-0 first quarter lead.
In the second quarter, Ian Nichols hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Maston. Donaghey grabbed a 2-point conversion pass from Maston to put Lowell Catholic in front 14-6 in the second quarter.
Peter Sawyer rushed for 60 yards, while Michael Canney, Bobby Cielakie and Josh Sayer led the way on defense with 7 tackles apiece.
Ayer Shirley 13
Troy Drasser scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help lift Lunenburg (5-1) past Ayer Shirley (4-2) in a Midland-Wachusett League D Division game-.
Lunenburg led 10-0 at halftime. Ayer Shirley trimmed the deficit to 10-7 in the third quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run by Halston Wilkey and Krystian Carter’s XP kick.
Logan Walker hauled in a 9-yard TD pass from Wilkey in the fourth quarter to complete the Panthers’ scoring.
Lou Vigeant rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown as Marlboro (4-2) blanked the Crusaders (0-5) in a Midland-Wachusett League B Division game.
Marlboro broke open a close game with 14 points in the fourth quarter.
