Trapped woman dies after large tree falls onto Atlanta home
ATLANTA, Ga. (AP) — A woman died early Tuesday morning when a tree fell onto her home in northwest Atlanta, city fire officials confirmed.
The elderly woman was pronounced dead before 7 a.m., Atlanta Fire Rescue announced on Twitter. Firefighters said the woman was the only person inside of the home at the time. Crews worked for more than two hours to rescue her from a bedroom she was believed to be stuck inside, the agency said.
The victim wasn’t immediately identified.
Emergency crews initially responded to an entrapment call, news outlets reported. Photos from the scene show a large tree with multiple branches completely tipped over onto the roof and protruding through the home. The two-story house sustained heavy damage.
No additional details were released.
