Virginia police officer indicted on charge of sexual battery
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A Virginia police officer has been indicted on a charge of sexual battery.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Richmond police Officer Michael Bryson was indicted this week. The circumstances surrounding the charge and the allegations that prompted it are unclear.
Interim Chief William Smith said in a statement that he’s “disappointed in the alleged actions of Officer Bryson, should they be found true during trial.” He also thanked the Richmond Commonwealth Attorney’s office for reviewing the department’s internal investigation and pursuing the indictment.
Bryson is currently on unpaid leave. He’s been with the department since 2008. It’s unclear if he’s in custody or when he will appear in court.
