Milford Oyster Festival announces band headliner
MILFORD - And the entertainment headliner for this year’s Milford Oyster Festival is ... Blackberry Smoke.
Blackberry Smoke is a southern country rock band out of Atlanta. The lineup consists of Charlie Starr (lead vocals, guitar), Richard Turner (bass, vocals), Brit Turner (drums), Paul Jackson (guitar, vocals), and Brandon Still (keyboards). They have performed throughout the United States both as headliner and as the supporting act for artists such as Zac Brown Band, Eric Church, ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The band spent much of the summer of 2016 on tour with Gov’t Mule.
Festival President Ila Tokarz said, “the festival is really excited to have Blackberry Smoke as its headliner this year. They will bring some new energy and sound to our main stage area.”
In announcing the headline entertainer, the festival said in a release, “Blackberry Smoke has evolved from a rough-edged club act to an areana-ready rock ’n roll powerful force while steadily extending and expanding the Southern rock tradition.” The band, formed in 2000, plays more than 250 shows a year.
Opening act for the band will be the Artimis Pyle Band. “Long considered the wild man of Lynyrd Skynard, Artimis Pyle’s powerful and distinctive double bass drumming helped define the legendary Lynyrd Skynard sound,” the festival said. “Artimis also worked with Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker, expanding his career as a powerful session drummer.”
The 43rd Milford Oyster Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Aug 19. (rain or shine) in downtown Milford.
The Milford Oyster Festival is one of the largest oyster festivals in the country and offers free admission and free shuttle buses. You can also take the train to the Milford train station, one block from the Green.
Oyster Eve, the Festival’s kick-off event is 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18 at Lisman Landing. Headlining the stage that evening is Classic Stones Live! The band will recreate the the Rolling Stones “in their legendary prime.”
