Lee Bell Jr.
Lee Bell Jr., 68, of Kankakee, passed away Tuesday (March 13, 2018) at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the 11 a.m. funeral services at Second Baptist Church, Kankakee. Reverend Tyler Prude will officiate. Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens of Memory, Kankakee.
Lee Bell Jr. was born Oct. 9, 1949, in Kankakee, the son of Lee and Betty Hunt Bell.
At an early age, he confessed his belief in Jesus Christ as his lord and savior and became a member of Second Baptist Church, where he served in the deacon ministry and Sunday school ministry.
After graduating from Eastridge High School, Lee began work at General Foods until he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1969-71. He returned to work at General Foods/Heinz until his retirement. Lee attended Kankakee Community College and received an associate’s degree in automotive mechanics.
Lee married Sarah Ann Petterson on Nov. 1, 1971, in Kankakee, and to their union, two children were born, Shondalyn and Reginald. He was a devoted, kind-hearted, caring husband, dad and papa with a quiet demeanor. In his younger years, he enjoyed working on cars, working with his hands doing woodworking and writing related to the law of God and had been inspired to write a book on the subject.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, of Kankakee; his daughter, Shondalyn Bell, and son, Reginald (Antoinette) Bell, all of Kankakee; one brother, Freddie (Helen) Bell, of Kankakee; brothers-in-law, Mel (Irene) Peterson, of Milwaukee, Wis., Perry (Janice) Peterson, of Homestead, Fla., Percy (Janet) Stone and Verdell (Aisha) Stone, all of New Orleans, La.; sisters-in-law, Ginnie (Larry) Thompson and Alouise Antoine, all of Harvey, La., and Rachelle (Billie) Moore, of New Orleans, La.; grandchildren, Christopher Bell-Autman, Jaylin Hairston, Kiely Bell, Leah Fuller and August Bell, all of Kankakee; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Sadie Hunt; brothers-in-law, Arzo Peterson, Jimmy Peterson and Harry Peterson; and a sister-in-law, Ernestine “Rosie” Stalling.
