Gang member convicted in shooting of FBI agent in Brooklyn

July 18, 2019

NEW YORK (AP) — An alleged Crips gang member has been convicted in the ambush shooting of an FBI agent in Brooklyn.

A federal jury on Wednesday found 31-year-old Ronell Watson guilty of attempted murder of a federal officer, assault of a federal agent and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime. He faces up to life in prison at his sentencing.

The shooting happened in Brooklyn’s Canarsie section last December. The FBI says Watson approached Special Agent Christopher Harper’s unmarked vehicle parked on a street during an unrelated investigation and opened fire after the agent drove away.

The agent was struck in the torso before exiting his vehicle and returning fire. The bureau says Watson was struck in the hand and later arrested at a hospital.
