Accidents snarl AM commute

September 27, 2017 GMT

Accidents in Danbury, Norwalk Stratford and Derby are marking for a tough commute Wednesday morning.

The latest accident, reported at 8:40 a.m., shut down the southbound right and center lane between Exits 17 in Westport and 16 in Norwalk. Three vehicles were involved in that accident.

As the AM commute was winding down, the accident caused traffic to be backed nearly four miles to Fairfield.

Earlier, there was a two-vehicle, westbound accident on I-84 near Exit 1 in Danbury that caused heavy delays to Exit 3.

Just before 8 a.m. on I-95 north in Stratford, a spinout crash closed the right lane between Exits 31 and 32.

And shortly before 7:30 a.m., a southbound Route 8 accident in Derby, just before the Commodore Issac Hull Bridge, had traffic backed up five miles into Seymour.

State Police said all the accidents only involved minor injuries.

On the Merritt Parkway was the usual southbound congestion.

At 8:30 a.m., average speed is 19 mph with the 17-mile trip from Route 8 in Trumbull to Route 7 taking 55 minutes. Without traffic traveling that distance would take 19 minutes.
