Six from Region 10 head to Elks National Hoop Shoot

HUNTINGTON — Six local youths will represent region 10 in the finals of the Elks National Hoop Shoot today in Middletown, Maryland, and represent Huntington Elks Lodge 313.

Delany Gray from Martha Elementary and Dominic Brockman from Southside Elementary were state winners in the 8-9-year-old age bracket making 18 of 25 free throws and 20 of 25 shots, respectively.

Additionally, Ethan Blackburn from Barboursville Elementary made 20 of 25 shots to win the boys 10-11-year old bracket.

The middle school level featured a shootoff with Gage Raschella of Buckhannon, West Virginia, winning the event with a perfect 15 of 15 shots to defeat Ethan Haught of St. Mary’s who finished 32 of 40. Aiden Mankin of Huntington East Middle School also participated in the shootoff and finished 28 of 35 to take third place.

The six West Virginians will compete in the regional finals against contestants from Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
