COLLEGE ROUNDUP: SHU women fall in finale
LORETTO, Pa. — Jessica Kovach scored a game-high 35 points to lead the St. Francis (Pa.) women’s basketball team over Sacred Heart 83-69 in the regular-season finale for both schools.
Kovatch and Katie Reese (24 points) combined to make 22 of 40 field goals for the Red Flash (16-13, 13-5 NEC), who converted 51.7 percent of their field goals in the game.
Adaysha Williams scored 20 points and added eight rebounds to lead the Pioneers (16-13, 13-5). Katherine Haines posted her ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and Shelby Hickey chipped in 19 points, including 14 in the second half, for Sacred Heart.
The Pioneers earned the second seed in this weekend’s NEC tournament and will host St. Francis (NY) on Sunday at 1.
NEW HAVEN — Lauren Mengel scored four goals, but it was not enough as the Purple Knights lost 16-13 to Southern Connecticut.
Shannon Colligan, of Greenwich, had one goal and three assists and Abigail Benesh, Barbara Orsini, Joanna Muniz and Courtney Forry each scored two goals in the loss for the Purple Knights (1-1).
Goalkeeper Cheyanne Gangel made 10 saves for UB.
Nicole Healy led Southern Connecticut (2-0) with five goals.
