Raiders Sign QB Craig Whelihan
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) _ Quarterback Craig Whelihan, who spent two seasons with the San Diego Chargers before being released in September, signed with the Oakland Raiders on Thursday.
The addition of Whelihan gives the Raiders five quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, joining Rich Gannon, Bobby Hoying, Wade Wilson and Scott Dreisbach. But Wilson is expected to retire and Hoying is eligible for free agency.
Whelihan signed a three-year deal with the Raiders. No other details of the contract were available.
Whelihan, a third-round draft pick by San Diego out of Pacific, started 14 games for the Chargers in 1997 and 1998. He completed 267 of 557 passes for 3,160 yards, with 14 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
