SWIMMING: Mumber picks up 2 more state cuts in Darlington School meet
Darlington finished fourth Thursday night in a swim meet against Woodstock, Gilmer, Cartersville and Coahulla Creek, but the Tigers had plenty of impressive performances.
Samson Mumber swam for two Georgia High School state qualifying times, placing first in the 100 yard freestyle with a 50.69 and first in the 100 backstroke with a 54.79. Mumber now has four state qualifying times.
The Tigers also featured Tanner Shadday, who placed first in the 1-meter diving and third in the 500 freestyle. Spencer Shadday placed second in the 200 individual medley and third in the 1-meter diving.
Vince Zhang placed third in the 100 backstroke, and Jack Eady placed third in the 100 breaststroke for the Tigers. The 400 freestyle relay team of Eady, Mumber, Tanner and Spencer Shadday placed second.
The Lady Tigers finished third overall, led by Kacey Kemp, who finished second in the 200 IM and third in the 50 freestyle. Melinda Childs placed third in the 100 breaststroke, and the girls’ 400 freestyle relay team of Maddie Bou, Childs, LeeLee Barnes, and Kemp placed second.
Darlington hosts Rome High on Tuesday.
