The Latest: Police find no sign of gunman at California mall

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — The Latest on a shooting at a Southern California shopping mall (all times local):

10:35 p.m.

Police who spent hours searching a massive Southern California shopping mall say they’ve found no sign of the gunman who wounded one person there.

Torrance police Sgt. Ron Harris says the 6 ½-hour search of Del Amo Fashion Center ended Monday night and police will continue looking for the attacker.

Details of the shooting are sketchy but Harris says the man who was shot is expected to recover.

The fashion center just south of Los Angeles is one of the nation’s largest malls. Police from Torrance and neighboring communities had to search more than 250 stores.

The mall was shut down and people evacuated after the attack.


4:23 p.m.

Police in Southern California are hunting for a gunman who shot one person at one of the nation’s largest malls.

Stores have been locked down and some people evacuated from the sprawling Del Amo Fashion Center just south of Los Angeles.

Police Officer Craig Durling says the shooting was reported Monday afternoon.

Durling says it’s believed the attacker fled the mall but most stores are locked down until police can search them.

The Fire Department says one person was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

The mall has more than 250 stores.
