Two in ‘critical condition’ after two-car collision on Hitchcock Parkway causes road closure
Aiken Public Safety officers responded to a two-car collision Thursday evening on Hitchcock Parkway, which ended up causing police to have to close off the roadway to traffic in both directions for several hours.
The two vehicles involved in the incident collided head on around 5:30 p.m., and both drivers received “serious injuries,” said Det. Jeremy Hembree, with Aiken Public Safety.
EMS took the victims to Augusta University Medical Center for treatment.
As of Friday afternoon, both victims were in “critical condition,” Hembree reported.
The Aiken Public Safety Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the incident to determine the cause of the crash and figure out who was responsible by determining which vehicle crossed the center line.
Hitchcock Parkway was reportedly closed off to traffic in both directions between Dibble Road and Huntsman Drive until 8:15 p.m. Thursday night, according to Aiken Public Safety.
