The Deseret News in Salt Lake City earned one of the top awards in the 2018 Utah, Idaho, Spokane Associated Press Association Contest.

The newspaper won the William H. Cowles III Memorial Award for Public Service for a story called, ““Generation Vexed” about how anxiety impacts teenagers in Utah and across the nation. The Salt Lake Tribune took home second-place in the category for Matt Canham’s stories about a police officer grappling with grief, guilt and trauma in “Officer in Distress.

The full list of awards is below. Fifteen daily newspapers submitted 602 entries in the contest, which featured news, sports stories and photos from 2018.

The awards will be distributed via mail in the next few weeks. They will also be posted at http://discover.ap.org/contests/uisapa.
