New Pond Farm to host astronomy program

February 19, 2019 GMT

New Pond Farm will host a February astronomy program at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The program will have a special preview beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the learning center at the farm, 101 Marchant Road in Redding. It will give participants, especially children, a chance to understand what they will see that night.

Topics include the winter constellations of Orion, his hunting dogs and the Gemini twins. The star birth area of the Orion nebulae and other deep sky objects will be viewed in the telescopes. Mars will be sighted but has decreased in size as the earth has pulled away since its close encounter in July, according to the press release.

Participants should dress warmly and bring a flashlight for the walk to the observatory.

It costs $4 per New Pond Farm member with a maximum of $16 per family and $6 per non-members with a maximum of $24 per family.

Registration is required. Please register at www.newpondfarm.org or by calling (203) 938-2117.
