Fire and Smoke Clears Finance Building
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) _ More than 2,100 state workers were evacuated from three state buildings after an electrical fire broke out Wednesday in the basement of one of the buildings, officials said.
Fire alarms at the buildings were triggered by a drop in electricity following the fire, said Stephen Gardner, spokesman for the Department of General Services.
Fire Chief Donald Konkle said the fire in the basement of the Finance Building was limited to the electrical equipment. The building was closed for the day as firefighters continued to clear smoke from the basement so the equipment could be repaired, Gardner said.
The 1,150 workers from the North Office Building and Forum Building were allowed to return to work shortly afterward, Gardner said.
