Lady ’Stangs post 56-26 win in NIAA opener

NEEDLES — The Lady ’Stangs varsity basketball team began their NIAA 2A South League season with a win at home, 56-26, over Laughlin’s Lady Cougars.

Needles’ Jordyn Breaux, Paige Murch and Marie Mills were a triple threat in The Corral, scoring 16, 14 and 13 respectively. Valentina Limon’s triple threes fell one point short of double digits.

Alex Rios scored nine, Jasmine Donnett seven and Faith McGeehan six for the Lady Cougars.

Free throw percentage was dismal at both ends of the court: the Lady ’Stangs made good on just 20 percent of attempts from the line; the Lady Cougars shot 33 percent.

Needles finished the first quarter up 16-7; led 28-15 at the half and 37-22 after three quarters of play.
