Veterans Transportation Program Seeks Volunteers

May 21, 2018

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, is seeking volunteer drivers for its Volunteer Transportation Network program, which matches volunteer drivers with a veteran’s hospital transportation request. This volunteer based program is managed by a hospital service coordinator. The transportation program is subsidized by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) through donations, and is the means in which stable, ambulatory veterans with no transportation get to the Wilkes-Barre facility for their appointments. Volunteer drivers must have a valid driver’s license (chauffer’s license not required), a good driving record, automobile insurance, pass a medical evaluation, and register as a VA volunteer. For information, contact voluntary service toll free at 1-877-928-2621, ext. 7237. Volunteer Transportation Network drivers, from left, are Roman Baran, John Sedon, Raymond Fitzpatrick, William Womack, Wesley Mullen, Doug Randall, and David Nelson.
