Dog walker loses Old Greenwich family’s golden Lab
GREENWICH — Jill Townsend and her family arranged for a dog walker to watch Reese, their golden Labrador retriever, while they left town for Thanksgiving break. But when they returned, they received bad news: Reese was missing.
The dog walker told the Townsends that Reese had gone missing Friday, Nov. 23, and was found, but was lost again on Monday, Nov. 26, near Babcock Preserve.
The Old Greenwich family reported Reese’s disappearance to the Greenwich Police Department and put up fliers in town.
“We still have not found him,” Townsend said Tuesday. “It’s so sad. We’re hoping she’s still out there somewhere.”
Over the weekend, she received a call from a man who saw Reese in North Stamford, and she has received reports of sightings as far away as Weston.
When she went missing, Reese was wearing a lime-green collar with the walker’s phone number as well as a black shock collar, which the family did not know the walker would be using.
“We’ve tried to get the word out as much as we can,” she said. “There have been so many sightings, but no one is taking a picture, so it’s hard to know for sure if it’s Reese.”
The community, people the Townsends know and people they had never met before, has rallied around the family and offered to put up posters as well as call area dog shelters and the police.
“We’ve been so touched by how everyone has been trying to help find Reese,” she said. “We really cannot thank everyone enough for how amazing they’ve been in this hard time for our family.”
Anyone who spots the dog is asked to call Jill Townsend at 914-629-5482.
