Lady Falcons cruise to playoff victory
Hargrave junior Sydney Bray scored a goal on a strike of 20 yards with a minute to go in the first half.
That gave the Lady Falcons a 4-0 lead, and they added four more goals in the second half to beat the Worthing Lady Colts 8-0 in a Bi-District playoff matchup on Friday evening, March 29 in Huffman.
“It’s always good to get off on the right foot,” said coach Adam Bell. “We played a great game, played aggressive, played hard.”
The Lady Falcons spent the overwhelming majority of the game with the ball on the offensive half of the field, with a large portion of that coming in the attacking third.
Hargrave, the undefeated District 21-4A champion moved to 22-2-1 on the season.
The Lady Falcons are on a 14-game winning streak dating back to mid-January, during which they have allowed a grand total of six goals, never more than one in a game.
Junior Taylor Sterling said that team is feeling a lot of confidence.
Bell feels that getting that first playoff victory adds to that confidence.
“I think it kind of builds on that pyramid we’re trying to get to,” he said. “Win and survive. Continue to build; continue to improve on each and every playoff game.”
The win over Worthing is the second playoff win for the program now in its third year of existence.
Hargrave attempts to go past the Area round of the playoffs for the first time in program history when it takes on the District 24-4A runner-up Brazosport Lady Explorers, who are 16-8-2, on Tuesday, April 2 at Dawson High School in Pearland.
