July 30, 2016

WOODS HOLE, Mass. (AP) — Woods Hole is ready for its close-up.

The 25th annual Woods Hole Film Festival kicks off Saturday. The eight-day festival screens independent films from around the world, with a special focus on those from Cape Cod and elsewhere in New England.

More than 130 films will be shown, starting with “Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You” by filmmaker-in-residence Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing. The film examines the life and career of Lear, who created the 1970s hit sitcom “All in the Family” and other shows.

Also being screened is Massachusetts resident Amy Geller’s documentary, “The Guys Next Door,” about a woman from Newton who became a surrogate mother and bore two children for gay friends living in Maine.
