HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Dennis and Carolyn Herrenkohl, of Barboursville, enjoyed having their family together for a few days during the Christmas holidays. Their daughter, Sandra, her husband, Matt Carpenter, and their three children - Cross, Cais, and Emerson - visited from Wake Forest, North Carolina; son, naval Cmdr. Shad, his wife, Amy, and two children - Walker and Emma - traveled from Chesapeake, Virginia; and son Stan, of Barboursville, and his three sons - Brock, Hunter and Grant - joined the celebration.

NEW GRANDCHILD: Vicki Smith of East Pea Ridge loves rocking her ninth great-grandchild, Calvin Thomas DeMoss, who was born in Huntington on Friday, Dec. 29, 2018. He weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces and was 21 inches long. His parents are Andrew and Amy DeMoss, of Huntington. His maternal grandparents are Steve and Therese Hardman, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and paternal grandparents are Mike and Pam DeMoss, of Scottown, Ohio. Maternal great-grandfather is Eddie Smith of East Pea Ridge, Huntington, and paternal great-grandparents are Bill and Mary DeMoss. Amy is a physical therapist at Huntington Physical Therapy and Andrew is the athletic trainer at Cabell Midland High School.


WOMEN’S GROUP: Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Women’s group invites all women to attend a gathering on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 6 p.m. at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, 955 Main St. The topic, “Women’s Health and Well Being,” will be presented by Dr. Jane Kurucz.

BARBOURSVILLE UPCOMING ACTIVITIES: With the New Year as a new beginning, the Barboursville Senior Center offers several programs, trips, luncheons, and dances to all Barboursville seniors. Four new programs are a Bible study on Wednesdays in January; a diabetic workshop on five days in January; an acrylic painting class in January and February; and a comedy show on Friday, Jan. 25. Julia Bolling will lead the Bible study of the Book of Jude each Wednesday in January from noon to 2 p.m.; the diabetic workshop is offered at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 15, 17, 22, 24 and 29; the acrylic painting class, taught by Sylvia Thompson, is offered each Thursday at noon starting on Jan. 10 and going through February; the comedy show is being planned by the Barboursville Senior Center and the Barboursville Harvest Club. REUNION: Members of the Barboursville High School class of 1959 will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Golden Corral restaurant on U.S. Route 60 East at 2 p.m. Graduates of other late BHS 1950s and early ’60s classes are welcome to join them.


LUNCHEON: The Democratic Women’s Club of Cabell County will have its monthly luncheon meeting on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 12:30 p.m. at the Barboursville Moose Lodge, Eastern Heights Shopping Center, 43351 U.S. Route 60 E. The featured speaker will be Stephen Smith, Democratic candidate for West Virginia governor in 2020.
