Woman, toddler killed in North Carolina SUV crash
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a woman and a toddler were killed when the SUV they were in hit a tree.
News outlets cite troopers who say 42-year-old Amy Minter of Maysville was driving on a rural road in Onslow County on Thursday when her vehicle ran off the right side of the road, crossed to the other side and hit the tree. According to the patrol, Minter was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the SUV.
The patrol says 15-month-old Robert Shultz also died at the scene, but it’s not known whether the two were related. Troopers said the toddler was secured in a car seat.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
