Northeast Community College and Tyson Foods have a growing partnership
NORFOLK - Northeast Community College and Tyson Foods have a partnership that is continuing to grow.
At the Board of Governors meeting last week Vice President of Educational Services Lyle Kathol and President Dr. Michael Chipps talked about the relationship.
Kathol said the partnership has been going on for the past two years.
“We had relatively decent success this past year. Tyson is paying the students to attend hourly as well as paying for the tools and tuition fees. Their agreement is that the students work for Tyson for two years once they complete the one year of training.”
Dr. Chipps said Northeast’s extended campus in South Sioux City and the Tyson Foods plant in Dakota City have also been working together to help the workers learn English.
He said Northeast’s hope is for the workers to become regular students, get their degree, and give them options to move up at Tyson.
