Robber with note unsuccessful in bank-branch heist
A bank robber was unsuccessful at his attempt to rob the Chase Bank branch on East Pettit Avenue this morning, Fort Wayne police said.
At about 10:55 a.m., police said, a man entered the branch at 204 E. Pettit, approached a teller and produced a handwritten note demanding cash, police said in a statement. It said the note also indicated that he was armed with a handgun.
The suspect did not get cash and was last seen running south from the bank, police said.
They said he was 5-feet-6 to 5-feet-8 inches tall, 180 pounds, and was wearing a black jacket with hood and tan pants.
The attempted robbery remains under investigation by city police and the Bank Robbery Task Force.
