Something to crow about
Sounds of roosters crowing from the poultry complex of the Gage County fairgrounds aren’t unusual.
What was unusual was that on Wednesday evening these sounds were coming from kids, not birds.
The annual rooster crowing contest was held Wednesday after the broiler show.
The participants, mostly 4-H members who were involved in the prior show, strutted their stuff for a chance at a goodie bag filled with stickers, candy, cash and naturally, a rubber chicken.
When it was all said and done the six competitors were judged based on audience applause, and Carsen Goes of Wymore was pronounced the winner.
Carsen crowed his heart out and walked away with the goodie bag, and said he also enjoyed showing at the broiler show.
“It’s fun to watch the animals grow up and stuff,” he said. “My favorite animal is probably the cow.”
Carsen is also showing cows and more birds at the Gage County Fair this year.
