Wickes to Buy Auto Parts Firm Dura Corp.
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) _ Manufacturing and retailing conglomerate Wickes Cos. Inc. said Monday it has agreed to purchase automotive equipment maker Dura Corp. of Southfield, Mich., for an undisclosed price.
Wickes said Dura would be ″a natural extension″ of its own automotive products segment.
Last year, privately held Dura had sales of more than $100 million.
Dura, with more than 500,000 square feet of factory capacity, produces window regulators, door hinges, power units for convertible tops, hood assists, step bumpers and suspension components.
Dura was founded in 1922 as Detroit Harvester Co. Fourteen years later, it merged with Dura Co. of Toledo, Ohio.
Wickes’ automotive segment has been providing original equipment and replacement parts for cars for more than 60 years.
