Columbus falls to Millard South in road dual
OMAHA — Millard South won five straight matches in Thursday night’s home dual to pull away from Columbus High for a 41-22 win.
Gavin Peitzmeier got the run started with a pin of Eddie Loredo at 220 pounds. Jake Mayville (285), Caleb Coyle (106), Blake Jackson (113) and Conor Knopick (120) all followed with victories for the Patriots, who turned a two-point advantage into a 41-16 lead with the wins.
The Discoverers never led as they were without Carter Kucera and forced to forfeit at 132 pounds, where the dual started.
Camdyn Iwan topped Blake Smith 11-5 at 138 pounds to get Columbus on the board and Avery McMeekin scored a second-round pin against Alex White at 152 pounds to tie the dual at 9-all.
A couple of wins from Millard South at 160 and 170 pounds made it 18-9. Kasten Grape scored a 9-1 major decision over Krew Tran at 182 pounds and Anthony DeAnda followed with a 4-0 victory over Chris Wortman at 195 pounds to bring Columbus within two points before the Patriots’ five straight wins.
Columbus’ Alex Korte finished the dual with a pin of Garrett Carbullido at 126 pounds.
The Discoverers are back in Omaha on Saturday for the Millard West Invite.
