Jermaine Tate To Join Cincinnati
CINCINNATI (AP) _ Jermaine Tate, a starter for Ohio State before being sidelined by a heart ailment, plans to resume his basketball career at Cincinnati.
Bearcats coach Bob Huggins said the ailment, diagnosed as cardiomyopathy, is not expected to prevent Tate from playing.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound junior enrolled Monday and is to begin practicing with the Bearcats later this week. He will become eligible in mid-December of the 1998-99 season and have two years of eligibility remaining.
Tate, from Toledo, started 41 of his 43 games at Ohio State and was averaging 14.1 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Buckeyes a year ago when the heart problem was detected.
At the time, he led the team in blocked shots with 11 and field goal percentage, shooting at a .561 clip.
As a freshman, he averaged 11 points and 6.9 rebounds.
