State wants to increase number of sex offenders at work camp
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) — Vermont is looking to increase the number of sex offenders housed in the Caledonia County Work Camp at a corrections center.
The town of St. Johnsbury and the Department of Corrections have an agreement in place that allow for the housing of sex offenders in the county in one of the work camp wings. The Caledonian-Record reports the department now wants the town to house sex offenders from surrounding communities.
DOC official Al Cormier says out-of-county offenders would still be released to their home communities.
The request has been tabled until negotiations between the town and the DOC can be completed.
