Provo, other cities to stop relocating wandering deer

May 6, 2019

PROVO, Utah (AP) — The city of Provo is ending its urban deer relocation program.

The Daily Herald reported Monday that Provo will no longer relocate deer found wandering within city limits in the wake of state officials’ decision to no longer make that an option.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced last week it was stopping the relocation program because of the spread of diseases and the survival rates for relocated deer.

Herriman and Provo also will stop relocating deer.

Provo has been participating in the urban deer program since 2017. In that time, the city has relocated nearly 90 deer.

Meanwhile, the lethal urban deer program will continue in 17 cities in Utah.
