St. Louis County man dead after 28-hour police standoff

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis County authorities say a man died after he was shot y a police officer in a 28-hour standoff that began when officers tried to arrest a drug suspect.

Police Sgt. Benjamin Granda said the standoff is believed to be the longest in St. Louis County history.

The confrontation began Thursday morning when U.S. Marshals went to a home in north St. Louis County to arrest a man on drug-related warrants. The 42-year-old man’s name hasn’t been released. The man went inside the house and repeatedly shot at officers during the standoff.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports police announced Friday afternoon that the man was found dead inside the home after an officer struck him with one shot. Granda said the man suffered two gunshot wounds, and it is unclear if one was self-inflicted.
