Kagawa stars with 2 goals in 3 minutes on Besiktas debut
ANTALYA, Turkey (AP) — Shinji Kagawa scored two goals in three minutes after coming on for his Besiktas debut in a 6-2 win at Antalyaspor in the Turkish league on Sunday.
The Japanese star, who moved from Borussia Dortmund to Besiktas on the last day of the winter transfer window on Thursday, came on in the 81st minute with his team leading 4-1.
Kagawa scored one minute later with his first action with the ball when he let fly inside the bottom left corner from around 18 meters (yards). He added a second from a free kick two minutes later.
It was Kagawa’s first game since Oct. 31 when he played in the German Cup for Dortmund. The 29-year-old midfielder asked for a move away from the German league leader after making just two Bundesliga appearances all season. He turned down Hannover before joining Besiktas.
Kagawa was a key player in Dortmund’s Bundesliga title wins in 2011 and 2012 following his move from Cerezo Osaka in 2010. He helped Dortmund achieve the double in 2012, scoring the first goal in the side’s 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup final.
Kagawa, who scored 60 goals and set up 55 more in 216 appearances for Dortmund, joined Manchester United in 2012 before returning to Dortmund in 2014.
Besiktas is third in the Turkish league.
