Schilling Ankle Exam Postponed

November 6, 2004

BOSTON (AP) _ An examination of Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s right ankle scheduled for Friday was postponed due to a scheduling conflict.

Doctors are expected to examine Schilling’s ankle on Saturday, and he probably will have surgery Tuesday.

Schilling won the sixth game of the AL championship series against the New York Yankees and the second game of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals despite a dislocated ankle tendon. Doctors put stitches in his ankle to keep the tendon in place and enable him to pitch.

Schilling had hoped to have surgery as soon as the season ended. He will need six weeks of rest and six weeks of rehabilitation, and delays could cause him to miss the start of spring training.
