Flood Authority’s Non-union Employees Receive Raises

October 17, 2018 GMT

PLAINS TWP. — The Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority on Tuesday approved 2.5 percent annual raises for the authority’s five non-unionized employees, including Executive Director Christopher Belleman. The annual raises will be in effect for 2019 through 2022, according to Kevin O’Brien, chairman of the authority board. The authority budget includes funding for the raises, he said. The raises are in line with the average 2.3 percent annual wage increases for the authority’s seven unionized employees, O’Brien said. The 2019 raise will not apply to authority deputy Director Clinton Sorber, who started work last month after the authority board authorized the creation of the position earlier this year. He will be eligible for the raises in 2020 through 2022. Going forward, authority employees hired after July 1 will not be eligible for raises in the following calendar year, O’Brien said. Belleman’s salary will increase from $79,568 this year to $81,557 in 2019. The flood protection authority maintains a 16-mile flood protection system along the Susquehanna River. The authority board meets at 1 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the authority’s administrative office, 300 Laird St. in Plains Twp. — ERIC MARK
