Rams Collect State Voke Crown
Shawsheen Tech crowned seven individual champions and won the Large School team title at the State Vocational Wrestling Tournament at Essex Tech in Danvers on Saturday.
Senior Omar Eldaly was the champ at 220 pounds and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in the upper weight classes.
Shawsheen finished with 216.5 points to beat out runner-up Putnam (202). Keefe Tech was 3rd with 104 points.
Austin Dube (113), Frank Foti (120), Devin DeLuca (126), Brian Caldwell (132), Stephan Saint-Juste (152) and Andre Comeau (195) also captured championships.
Michael Steen was 2nd at 170 pounds and Diondre Turner was 3rd at 145 pounds for the Rams.
The Gryphons also wrestled in the Large School division of the State Vocational Tournament.
Daleon Rich placed 3rd at 220 pounds, as did Torrey Smith at heavyweight. Sean Tibeault was a 4th-place finisher at 195 pounds.
The Tigers finished 2nd at the Winnacunnet Tournament.
The Tigers defeated Milford, N.H., 40-27, Kearsarge, N.H., 36-21, and host Winnacunnet, 30-12, before losing in the championship round to Campbell, N.H., 35-34.
Evan Rankin (120 pounds) and Mark Thomas (170) both went a perfect 4-0 on the day for THS. Josh Ducharme (138) and Zach Souza (160) were both 3-1 on the day.
It was a 3-1 day for the Red Raiders, who defeated Lincoln-Sudbury (47-28), New Bedford (37-32) and Marlboro (48-28). Lowell’s lone loss came against BC High (44-27).
Hunter Williams (106 pounds), Seth Turner (138), Brock Pare (152) and Aaron Diaz (195) each had a perfect 4-0 day.
Andrew Phal (113) and Clevince Bogle (132) went 3-1 for LHS.
The Pythons fell to Bishop Guertin, 27-12, and bounced back with a victory over Newport, 42-24.
Patrick Soonthornprapuet was double-winner at 106 pounds. Conor Maslanek picked up a win at 195 pounds and 220 pounds for Pelham.
The Middies placed 3rd out of 16 teams, behind wrestling powers Springfield Central and Mount Anthony
Ty Stewart (113 pounds), Dante Rossetti (120) and Devin Lambert (145) captured 2nd-place finishes. Kyle Durkin (170) and Allyn French (182) took 3rd.
The Indians went 1-1-1 in a quad meet, defeating Hopkinton 42-24, losing to Westford Academy 51-30 and deadlocking with Walpole 42-42.
James Best was a three-time winner for Billerica at 132 pounds, while Dominic Gird also won three matches wrestling at 138 and 145. Cameron Salter took a trio of wins at 160.
Double-winners for the Indians were Gavin Mancini, Anthony Damiano and Alexander Gualtieri. Winning one bout were Ross Gordon, Seth Perry, Alexander Lizotte, Dominic Bastianelli and David Cesar.
The Lions competed in a quad-meet at Brockton and earned a win over Woburn, 48-21, while losing to Hope, R.I. (46-31) and Brockton (48-30).
Chelmsford (11-7-1) got double-wins from Mike McLarney (106 pounds), Evan Kinney (113), Zach Reynolds (138), Devon Giannino (145) and Aiden Ahern (195).
DJ Fraser placed 2nd at 220 pounds to lead Nashoba Tech, which competed in the Small School division at the State Vocational tourney.
Soul Zaker (106), Josh Valcourt (113) and Jason Mendonca (138) picked up 3rd-place finishes.
The Redmen competed at the Methuen Invitational and took 15th as a team.
Dylan Chandler was 3-1 on the day at 285 pounds to place 3rd. Connor Charron had 3 pins and went 4-1 to take 5th at 126 pounds.
The Grey Ghosts had a great day, earning wins over Billerica (51-30), Hopkinton (54-24) and Walpole (53-21).
Stephen Donovan went a perfect 3-0 at 126 pounds. Jake Morash won 3 matches at 182 and 195 pounds, as did Jackson Roux at 182 pounds and 195 pounds.
Jack Quaranto (106), Ryan Walsh (120), Rory Sullivan (152),Will Rudiman (170) and Adam Selman (220) each won two matches.
