Red Cross blood drives in April
The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give blood during National Volunteer Month in April.
The Red Cross says volunteer donors are the only source of blood products for those in need of transfusions. Donors of all blood types are needed to help meet patient needs this spring.
Upcoming blood donation opportunities in the area are as follows:
-- Tuesday, April 24, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Watertown High School, 825 Endeavour Drive, Watertown.
-- Wednesday, April 25, noon-5 p.m., Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, 269 N. Lake St., Hustisford.
-- Thursday, April 26, noon-6 p.m., St. John’s Lutheran Church, 129 N. Watertown St., Johnson Creek.
-- Thursday, April 26, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Waterloo High School, 865 N. Monroe St., Waterloo.
Donors must be at least 17 years old to donate blood. Parental consent for whole blood donation is required for donors 16 years of age. A donor card and driver’s license, or two forms of identification, are required at check-in. Other donor requirements can be found at www.redcrossblood.org.
All donors are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, eat a well-balanced meal within four hours of donating, and avoid strenuous activities a few hours before donating.
To make an appointment to give blood, call 1-800-733-2767 or visit www.redcrossblood.org.
At the Johnson Creek blood drive, Culver’s of Johnson Creek will provide each participant with a “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” coupon for a free pint of frozen custard.
