Volleyball Boots Yugoslav Team

March 30, 1999

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) _ The world governing body of volleyball Tuesday withdrew the Yugoslav team from this year’s World League tournament and replaced it with Portugal.

``Given the current situation, the organizers of the major men’s professional volleyball competition consider that the conditions that would enable the regular participation of the Yugoslavian team in this year’s World League are not fulfilled,″ the FIVB statement said.

Yugoslavia was to play in Pool C with Cuba, France and Argentina. Portugal replaces Yugoslavia.

The Yugoslav home matches were set for Belgrade and Novi Sad, two cities that have been the targets of NATO airstrikes.
