Humane Society preparing for holiday events
Humane Society to participate in parade
Let the fun begin! The Christmas season is here, and you can be a part of the excitement Saturday, Dec.t 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the third annual Lighted Christmas Parade in downtown Beatrice.
The Beatrice Humane Society will have a float in the parade and, depending on the weather and other circumstances, animals available for adoption from the Beatrice Animal Shelter will be riding on the float with their human handlers.
Special thanks to Jeff Riley for the use of his flatbed and generator and to the employees of the animal shelter for putting together this great entry. Following the parade down Fifth Street, stop by the float to meet and greet the animals that are looking for their forever homes.
Santa Paws Photos
If you would like to have a special memento of your pet this Christmas season, consider coming to the Santa Paws photo day on Saturday, Dec. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Beatrice Animal Shelter.
Santa will be taking time out from his busy December schedule so you can have your pets’ photos taken with the big guy himself. A free-will donation of cash or shelter supplies will entitle you to the photos which will be posted on Facebook or emailed to you. No appointment is necessary.
Perfect presents for people and pets
With the Christmas season comes the matter of selecting the right present for each person and/or pet on your list. You’re in luck. We have the perfect gift for man or beast.
The Humane Society is continuing the sale of tribute bricks as a fundraiser for the animal shelter. Bricks in two different sizes are available for $100, with three lines of printing for the smaller one, and $250, with six lines for the larger one.
This is a wonderful way to buy a unique gift that is sure to please the recipient. There is no need to fret about the color, size, or flavor of this gift. It’s perfect for everyone. You can honor a special friend or family member or pay tribute to a special pet in your life. Tribute brick order forms are available on the Beatrice Humane Society website or at the Beatrice Animal Shelter.
The first order of bricks has been installed along the front sidewalk of the shelter. Stop by any time to get a first-hand look at the two sizes and the inscriptions. It’s the purr-fect gift.
Humane Society gift certificates available
When pondering gifts for the animal lover, please don’t even consider picking out a cute puppy or a gorgeous cat to give to someone. That’s a bad idea! Selecting the perfect pet that will become a part of a family should always be done by the members of that family. The cute Labrador puppy you pick out for them is definitely not the long-haired gray and white cat they have always wanted.
Or perhaps the perfect Siamese kitten is a source of great stress for the family’s senior cat and the resident Dalmatian. Or did you have any way of knowing that the family always wanted a female dog, but the one you presented them with happened to be a male?
Not to worry. The perfect solution for this dilemma is to purchase a gift certificate from the Beatrice Humane Society. The certificates, which are available in any dollar amount at the shelter, will enable the recipient to give some thought to adopting a new companion animal. They will have the opportunity to visit the shelter to meet the available cats and dogs and to hear about the special qualities of each animal.
The gift certificate approach is a win-win for everyone and will give recipients the joy of choosing the perfect pet themselves. If you want something tangible to go to your recipient, you can purchase a cat or dog toy, a food/water bowl or pet treats to go along with the certificate. Be sure to check out the toys and pet items that are for sale in the shelter gift shop.
You may also consider making up a booklet that includes coupons for taking the new dog on walks or for cat-sitting when the pet owner is out of town. Or, if there are young children in the family, include a book or DVD about a special animal or a picture frame to hold a photo of the furry friend.
Yes, the Christmas hustle and bustle is upon us, but you can keep the shopping part of it carefree. Pet photos with Santa, tribute bricks and gift certificates to the animal shelter will help to keep it simple for you while helping the animals at the shelter. Take a deep breath and enjoy the season.
