Kentucky school sued, accused of mistreating autistic child

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — The parents of a Kentucky middle school student with autism are suing school district officials, accusing employees of dragging their son down a hallway, kicking him and carrying him unwillingly up stairs.

The Herald-Leader reports Courtney Jo Grayson and Donnie Jack Grayson Jr. filed the suit last week in Lexington. They say Fayette County school employees improperly handled their son who they describe as a “relatively non-verbal” special needs student.

Jo Grayson told the newspaper last year her son was tired that day and refused to get off the gym floor. That’s when the suit says he was mistreated, leaving him with physical and mental injuries. The lawsuit accuses the district of not adequately training staff on special needs students’ supervision.
