‘Changed forever’: Saints GM Mickey Loomis, former player Rickey Jackson reflect at Tom Benson visitation

Every time he ended a conversation, he left a gem of wisdom.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis reflected on his time with team owner Tom Benson who died last week at age 90.

“It’s just emotional. ... All those memories come rushing to you, all those good times,” Loomis said. “The lives of me and my entire family were changed forever.”

Visitation for Benson, who also owned the New Orleans Pelicans, began Wednesday morning. Visitation continues on Thursday before a private funeral service Friday.

The first group allowed into the seminary for visitation entered while singing “When the Saints Go Marching In.” There were also “Who Dat” chants, and calls to do the “Benson Boogie.”

Many notable figures were on scene at Notre Dame Seminary, including former Saints player Rickey Jackson.
